Its a great radio with a nice color display and lots of features to fly with. I like the Yaesu brand and this is my 3rd Yaesu radio because I have an Amateur radio license (W8XP). They take a little time to learn all the menus well.

Yaesu gives you everything you need to run this ht. The screen is easy to see, programming it on your computer, then uploading to the radio is a good way to go. The radio picks up noise from flourescent lighting and more. Ignore it set the squelch and anl in the plane or outside. I had the 750L and upgraded to this as it has bluetooth and more. A backup radio is cheap insurance. You can get away w less for simple comms but if younwant the best backup this is it. Also the extra battery tray is a big plus. Load it w lith ions and keep it for backup. Long shelf life just in case. Hope this helps. Ive owned other yaesu amateur radios, it was a no brainer to go w yaesu for GA radio.

Q: Does the battery charger on the Yaesu FTA 850L accept European 220/240 V Ac?

Yes, this includes a 100-240VAC charger.

Q: Does the YEASU 850 Handheld radio need the vertex bnc heliical antenna and if so what does that give you over the antenna that comes with the radio?

This already comes with an antenna and does not require you to get the other one.

Q: On a Bluetooth Headset like a new David Clark, do you need a seperate PTT adaptor with the FTA 850L?

When connected using Bluetooth, you can use the VOX function to automatically transmit when voice is heard. In order to use the remote PTT switch, the headset jacks would need to be plugged into the headset adapter on the Yeasu FTA 850L.

Q: Can this be used with the Flightcom IISX intercom so two pilots can talk and use the radio? The intercom has an aux input. Or via bluetooth? Or, are handheld radios for single pilot only?

Yes, handheld radios can be used for two pilots. You would need to use a portable two place intercom, like part # 11-08700 for this. You can also connect multiple headsets via Bluetooth to this radio.

Q: Yaesu has a bluetooth adapter on their website for the 850L. Is the Bluetooth internal on the 850L?

The FTA850L has a built-in Bluetooth module.

Q: In numerous places the SDD-12 specs refer to 12 volt supply voltage. In the owners manual it mentions 12-24 volt input. I have a 28 volt bus in my plane. Can you confirm that the SDD-12 can accept a 28 volt input? Thanks.

In aviation, 12-24 is the same as 14-28 volt aircraft.

Q: Is there a charging cradle for the FTA850L?

It comes with the Charger cradle included in the box.
