These work great! I like that the frame is not a ground point, so I can installed twisted wire to eliminate magnetic fields when I install a Magnetometer in a wingtip. They are bright and look good. highly recommend!

Very nice and very bright LED and strobe. Installation was very easy on my 172. Only bad thing I can saw about this is the price. That price is just outrageous.

Excellent product! When that high dollar power supply goes out, look at the Orion 650 series LED lighting. Self contained unit with very bright LED lights and easy installation in existing mounts.

This has a little bit larger footprint than the Aeroflash unit I replaced but it fit really good on my early 182. It was way brighter than the Aeroflash strobe-nav lights that it replaced. I am really impressed. Well worth the cost.

These LED lights are an exact footprint fit for the older incandescent/strobe Whelen lights theyre designed to replace. I found the Nav brightness to be excellent -- I have seen brighter LED NAVs but these are noticeably brighter than the standard bulbs they replace, so thats good to know. The strobes are easily linked using existing wiring (assuming you already have separate Nav and Strobe wiring) so that they can be matched for the strobe. The Strobe and Nav use the same common return wire, leaving the old Strobe return wire to be used for the sync wire. The only issue is that in my case, this unit sits behind a plexi lens (not standard as this is the model designed to be on the wing exposed to the elements) and the units lens above the Nav light is a bit higher (by maybe 1/2) than the original unit. But, the benefit is that there is no protruding strobe anymore -- very sleek as the picture shows. Used as designed (as an exterior light) there would be no issue for any direct-replacement installation. Two thumbs-up for this install. Now I hope to see its longevity make the effort worth it -- hopefully no change-out as long as I fly this plane. Well see in the years to come.

Lighter, much brighter, uses less power and eliminates the old strobe power supply. Cost of two units was about the same as the cost of one strobe/nav/power supply to replace the original unit. Same foot print as OEM strobe/pos light. Very easy installation. My install required slight mod to wing-tip but that was a fair trade for this much nicer unit.

The 650 installed very easily into our 172N with original Cessna Wingtips. Because our plane had the original Cessna tube strobe the wiring was already in place. Also the Cessna mounting nuts matched the pattern on the 650. Bottom line: the unit was easy to install, looks just fine, and is considerably brighter than the old Cessna unit it replaces. And we could discard the Aero Flash power-supply.

Q: Can you control the strobe separate from the position lights?

You can. Per the installation manual, there are 4 wires; you can wire the Flashing and Position lights to separate switches. The other 2 wires are ground.

Q: I have 2 wires going to the nav lights on my cessna-172m. Can I wire the strobe and nav together and use the existing navswitch to run both nav and strobe continuously so I don't have to run 2 more wires and another switch? aircraft is VFR only. Thank You. RE: Orion 650

Per the supplier: I would not recommend this setup but it can be used that way. It is recommended that they use two separate power wires so they can operate the functions independently.

Q: Are these legal for installation on a certified aircraft?

Yes, the Whelen Orion 650 series is FAA TSO approved for installation in certified aircraft.

Q: Does the Orion 650 require a tail position light?

Per Whelen, the Orion 650 does not require the aircraft to have a tail light, but can if they choose. The unit has LED's on the back half of the unit to provide 180 degrees of strobe when mounted on the wing tip.

Q: Does Whelen FAA Approval for installing the ORION 650 series on Certified Aircraft?

Yes, the Whelen Orion 650 series is FAA TSO approved for installation in certified aircraft.

Q: Does the Whelen Orion 650 Series Lighting have a Rear Position White Light separate from the strobe for use on aircraft that have no rear position light mounted on the tail?

No, this light does not have the rear position light. Take a look at P/N# 11-11365 or in other words the Orion 600 Series. This light would have the rear position light.

Q: I currently have nav/whelen strobe wingtip lights on my 206. Can I use the wires from the strobe (after removing the power supply) for the strobe on the Orion 650 and the wires for the nav for the nav? In other words, will I have to run new wires?

You can use the existing wiring, the Orions just bypass the strobe power supply. No need to run new wiring.

Q: Are the Orion 650 series wingtip lights shielded and is there enough wire supplied to run the length of a wing or do I need to purchase wire separately

Shielded wire is not included and must be ordered separately.

Q: Can you program the Whelen Orion 650 strobes or do they just flash on / off?

On / Off only.

Q: Do the Whelen Orion 650 series LED lights fit the same as the Whelen A650-PG-PR? Any modifications needed other than wiring to fit as a replacement - screw locations the same?

Yes, the Whelen Orion 650 series LED lighting replaces the A650 lights. The screw locations and mounting dimensions are the exact same. These LEDs do not require a power supply whereas the old A650s did, so you can remove that from the aircraft and connect the new lights directly to ship's power.
