Q: What is the difference between 11-16557 and 11-16558? Looks like the same except ES and ESG.

The difference is in the Transponder. ESG has a built in GPS receiver that will allow connection to a WAAS GPS antenna. The ES will need a WAAS GPS source.

Q: Can the Stratus 3i display traffic via the TIS input to a Garmin 496?

Per the manufacturer, the Garmin 496 is not on the list of compatible devices/apps. You can use the GDL 50 p/n: 11-16232
