Q&A

Please note, Pilotshop.com's personnel are not certified aircraft mechanics and can only provide general support and ideas, which should not be relied upon or implemented in lieu of consulting an A&P or other qualified technician. Pilotshop.com assumes no responsibility or liability for any issue or problem which may arise from any repair, modification or other work done from this knowledge base. Any product eligibility information provided here is based on general application guides and we recommend always referring to your specific aircraft parts manual, the parts manufacturer or consulting with a qualified mechanic.

Q: Is the Ted transponder antenna TSO'd (certified)?

No this is a non certified antenna.

Q: I need a 10 foot cable for this antenna. What is the part number of this cable?

You can type in coax cable in the search box to find the cable you will need. RG 400 or RG 58 will work fine, just make sure you get a male BNC connector that is 400 or 58 (will say in the product name) so it will match the cable type.

Q: What is the gain of this antenna for part number 11-17995?

The manufacture does not give detailed specs on this transponder antenna. As it is not TSO'd it is recommended for experimental aircraft only. It is comparative to the AV-22 and CI-101 transponder antennas.

Q: Can the TED TRANSPONDER ANTENNA also be used for the ADS-B?

It can but please refer to your transponders recommended list of antennas to ensure compatibility.

Q: Do you have a similar antenna with right angle mount that I can connect directly to my Dynon ADSB 470 for an internal antenna in a Glasair.

Per Dynon it is not recommended to attach an antenna direct to the ADS-B unit due to poor reception inside the aircraft as also the antenna must be 3 feet away from other antennas. It is best to mount on the belly of the aircraft. We do not carry a right angle ADS-B antenna.

Q: In response to question above me, the ADS-B and Transponder are in the same frequency range. So, yes.

Thank you for offering an answer to a previous customers question.

Q: How critical is the ground plane requirement for the 11-17995 antenna for use with ADS-B? I will be purchasing an ADS-B transponder for use on a high-altitude research balloon and a 4 foot diameter metal ground plane is not much of an option.

Please see your transponders recommended list of antennas and grounding procedures in the installation manual to ensure proper functionality.

Q: What are the dimensions and material of the TED monopole transponder antenna?

We have added the dimensions to the 'Documents' tab of this web page. The material is nickel-plated brass.

Q: What is the maximum length of cable that can be used to not be losses in the reception signal of the ADS-B?

RG-400 can be used for leads up to 15 feet. RG-142 is suggested for leads over 15 feet.

Q: Can this TED antenna be used with a KT76A/78A transponder?

The antenna can be used as long as the transponder is in good working condition.
