Overview

The Fuelhawk is clear lightweight and unbreakable. It's easy to use and gives an instant readout in gallons usable. No more guessing. These handy devices offer the answers to these very important questions:
  • How many gallons of usable fuel are still in
    the tank?
  • How much fuel can be added without going
    over gross weight?
  • Are the aircraft fuel gauges working and
    accurate?

We have tried other means of determining the exact amount of fuel in our 8 C172s. All but one are 26.5 gal tanks. The fuel stop is a MUST. When one is stolen, or dropped into the tank we have a heck of a time finding the culprit. Over all we love them. Not only do we drop a bit of super glue, we have drilled a small hole in the fuel stop and added a metal ID tag with the plane number.

Ive purchased several of these. I rent my plane and people loose it, but it works great. But do not buy this glass straw without the red fuel stop also at Spruce for about 8 bucks. It helps to keep from dropping the straw into the tank. Ive also learned to put a drop of super glue on the straw where I attach the fuel stop so it stays in place. Lastly, on my plane I hit the rib at the bottom of the tank so the straw says you have a little less gas than actual, which is fine by me, but just put it in at an angle to get all the way to the bottom. The warning about the rib is small but printed on the straw. All in all, I love these things already calibrated for our 52 gal C-172 and will continue to purchase as needed.

I ordered this to see if by chance it might work with the 24 gallon tanks on my 172M model, even though the description plainly states that it is for 26.5 gallon tanks in later models. I wish there was a version of this product calibrated for the 26 gallon total / 24 gallon useable fuel tanks found in the prevalent C172M and similar 172 sub-models. There is a non-marked version available that you calibrate yourself. So buyer beware, as stated in the ad, this product is NOT calibrated for 24 gallon usable tanks. It is however easier to dip and read than the wooden dowel rod that I made and calibrated myself. I dip it to get an accurate level and then hold it against my wooden stick to get the reading. The product appears well made and durable, of pretty thick rigid plastic tubing with clear markings.
